Versailles Mayor Fred Siegelman was charged with driving under the influence about 1 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Siegelman, 47, was charged after a traffic stop on Marseilles Drive in Versailles, said Versailles police spokesman Lt. Daniel Clark.
Siegelman refused a breath test to measure his blood-alcohol content and was taken to the Woodford County jail, Clark said. Siegelman has since been released from custody, according to the VINELink Web site that monitors the custody status of jail inmates.
Siegelman, a former Versailles City Council member, was first elected mayor of Versailles in 1998 and won re-election in 2010. The mayor could not be immediately reached for comment at home or on his cellphone.
