A Versailles man was in serious condition at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with stab wounds, and his son was in jail following an altercation early Thursday.

Lt. Daniel Clark of the Versailles Police Department said Dennis Phar, 73, was rushed to UK after the stabbing incident at his home on High Street about 5:40 a.m. Thursday.

Phar underwent surgery at UK Thursday morning and later was reported in serious, but stable condition, Clark said.

Phar's son, Ross Phar, 25, also of Versailles, was being held in the Woodford County Jail on charges ranging from first-degree assault to fleeing and evading police, Clark said.

Clark said Ross Phar apparently went to his father's home early Thursday, an altercation ensued and Dennis Phar was stabbed. The elder Phar previously had taken out a domestic violence protective order against his son, Clark said.

Officers were sent to Dennis Phar's residence, where they found him, Clark said. While officers were there, Ross Phar drove past the house, then drove off when police tried to stop him, Clark said.

Police say Ross Phar was arrested on U.S. 60 a few miles east of Versailles after his car crashed and overturned. The car collided with a motorcycle, causing both vehicles to crash, police said. The rider, who was not identified, was taken to UK with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, Clark said.

According to police, Ross Phar is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, one count of violating a domestic violence protective order, one count of fleeing and evading police in the first degree, reckless driving and one count of first-degree wanton endangerment.
