Two foreign-born nationals were in jail after being accused of trying to sell their 14-year-old daughter to a male friend. Zeferino Ponce-Nava, 36, was booked in the Woodford County Detention Center on Wednesday on charges of human trafficking and being a fugitive. Emilia Villanueva-Ponce, 37, was also being held for being a fugitive.
According to federal documents, Versailles police received information Tuesday that the two had reportedly attempted to sell their daughter to a male friend. They then notified federal officials. Both Nava and Ponce told police that each is a "citizen and national of Mexico by birth," according to federal documents. They could not provide ID or documentation that they are in the United States legally.
