An infant needing medical attention led to the arrest Wednesday of the child’s parents, Stanton Police Chief Arthur Lacy said.
Police were called to Pine Creek Apartments on a trespassing complaint Wednesday morning. Officers found Fred Reed, 27, of Clay City, asleep in a bed with a 20-month-old while a two-month-old was crying, Lacy said.
“Reed was banned from the property out there, and the management and owner of that property didn’t want him on the property,” he said.
Police noticed that the two-month-old had a dirty diaper and asked Reed, the infant’s father, to change the diaper. While the diaper was being changed, police noticed sores all around the infant’s rear and genitals, Lacy said.
“It was even bleeding it was so bad,” he said.
Police radioed for an ambulance and a social worker, and the child was taken to a hospital with severe injuries.
Both parents told deputies that the infant had a yeast infection and had been taken to the doctor a few days earlier, Lacy said. “They said they had a cream to put on it and the other child with a severe rash, but when they were questioned separately, they didn’t know when the last time they put the medicine on,” Lacy said.
Reed and the mother, Deanna Rose Peacock, 19, were arrested on charges of second-degree criminal abuse. Reed also was charged with first-degree trespassing. They were being held in the Powell County jail.
