A woman was arrested on a charge of trying to start a fire at the Silvertree Apartments, 1040 Cross Keys Road, on Thursday, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

Bobbie Jo Woods, 43, was lodged in the Fayette County jail on one count of first-degree criminal attempt arson.

Witnesses told investigators that Woods applied "liquid they believed to be lighter fluid" to the door of an apartment, then returned with burning paper to try to ignite the fluid, fire department Battalion Chief Mark Blankenship said. Someone called 911 at 10:24 a.m., and Woods was arrested at 10:55 a.m.

A motive was not immediately known because Woods "appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time" and could not be interviewed, Blankenship said.
