2 are charged with murder, arson in connection with Harlan County fire

Two people have been charged with murder and arson in connection with an August house fire in Stanfill in Harlan County that killed one woman.

Kentucky State Police announced Saturday that Melissa Brown, 30, of Harlan and Christopher Hill, 44, of Cumberland have been arrested, and both are charged with first-degree arson and murder. Both are lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

On Aug. 16, police were called to a fire at a home in Stanfill and was told that April Dean, 26, was inside the residence at the time. Dean was not able to make it out of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kentucky State Police said Saturday that the case is still under investigation.
