A Barren County man has been charged with murder after the death of an 8-week-old girl that was in his care.
Barren County sheriff's deputies found the baby Sunday on a couch in a house on Squire Edwards Road after a woman called 911 to report an unresponsive infant, Sheriff Kent Keen said.
The child's caretaker, Chad Lewis, 35, was charged Wednesday with murder. Lewis' relationship to the infant was unclear, police said.
The infant was taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow and later to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, according to the police report. She died there Tuesday at 1:11 p.m.
Her name has not yet being released.
An autopsy showed that she died from a "closed head injury" from an impact, according to the police report.
The house where police found the infant belonged to a neighbor of Lewis. The neighbor called 911 for help, Keen said.
Lewis had brought the infant there "after the trouble had started," Keen said.
Deputies went to Lewis' house and found a large amount of marijuana growing, Keen said.
In addition to murder, Lewis has been charged with cultivating marijuana, endangering the welfare of a minor, wanton endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the police report.
