A man apparently was shot Wednesday afternoon off Eastland Parkway, but police couldn't find the victim or the shooter.
A woman working inside of the Eastland Food Mart, at Eastland Parkway and New Circle Road, called an ambulance and said that a man had been shot in the stomach.
Police arrived shortly after 2:15 p.m., Lt. Tommy Perkins said.
Evidence found outside the store indicated that someone had been shot, Perkins said.
"We don't have very much right now," Lt. Tommy Perkins said.
A K-9 unit was called to help track both the victim and the suspect, but after a while, the crime-scene tape was removed and police began to leave.
"I'm not sure why he ran off," Perkins said. "We're really concerned with his well-being. We're hoping that someone can help us locate him so we can give him the help he needs."
Two nearby schools, Yates Elementary School and Dixie Elementary School, were locked down for about 45 minutes while police searched, Perkins said.
"Part of the reason we did lock down the schools was the nature of the crime," Perkins said. "We wanted to make sure that the students were safe."
After police ensured that the area was safe, students were allowed to be picked up by their parents, Perkins said.
Anyone with information about the shooter or the victim is encouraged to call police at (859) 258-3600.
