A woman was seriously injured Thursday morning as she tried to break up a dog fight.
Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control was contacted by Lexington police about 10:30 a.m. The woman was bitten by a pit bull-mastiff mix at a home on the 600 block of Woodward Lane.
The woman, whose name was not immediately given, had gotten into a fight with her daughter, animal control information officer Tim Brown said. During the fight, a pit bull-Shepherd mix came out of a room to see what the commotion was when the pit bull-mastiff mix attacked the other dog.
The mastiff mix is owned by the injured woman and lives at the home. The shepherd mix was being kept there temporarily, Brown said.
The woman's injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
Brown said animal control would file a bite report, and the city's health department would issue a quarantine for the dog.
Woodward Lane is off Liberty Road, outside of New Circle Road.
