Four in Knox County are charged with conspiring to submit false tax returns

A federal grand jury on Thursday charged four people with taking part in a conspiracy in Knox County to submit false tax returns that brought in $125,835.

Billy Ray Hamilton, Brian Hamilton, Patsy Carnes and Diana Hill took part in the alleged conspiracy between January 2011 and July 2012, the grand jury charged.

Billy Ray and Brian Hamilton were charged with preparing and submitting false returns to get refunds.

Carnes claimed the refunds and distributed the money, while Hill supplied names, Social Security numbers and other identifying information to use on the returns, the indictment charged.

The indictment included a forfeiture count under which the government will try to take $125,835 from the Hamiltons if they are convicted, representing the proceeds of the wire fraud they allegedly committed.
