State police: Rain contributed to a Letcher County truck crash that killed 2

Two men were killed Thursday in Letcher County when a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck collided on Ky. 15, police said Friday.

Joseph Caudill, 26, of Jenkins was driving the Chevrolet pickup truck northbound when the pickup crossed the center line and collided with a Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Jody Townsend, 41, of South Carolina, according to Kentucky State Police.

Caudill and a passenger in his truck, Bobby Jent, 43, of Neon, died at the scene, according to state police. Caudill and Jent weren't wearing seat belts.

Townsend, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to state police.

The investigation in continuing, but wet roads were a factor, state police said.
