Police shot and wounded a suspect Tuesday in Floyd County after he shot a Prestonsburg officer, according to a news release.
Adam Dixon, the officer who was shot, was flown to a hospital and is in stable condition, according to the news release from Kentucky State Police.
Associated Press reported Dixon was shot in the chest and flown to a hospital in West Virginia.
The suspect, 28-year-old Robert Powers of Auxier, was treated for gunshot wounds that were not life threatening, police said.
Powers was charged with attempted murder of a police officer.
The shootings happened after Prestonsburg police attempted to stop Powers' vehicle in the city and he fled. Police chased him to Abbott Creek, where Powers went to a house, according to the release.
Powers refused to obey commands by police to give up. An officer used a Taser on him, but it was not effective.
Powers produced a gun and shot Dixon, and then officers shot Powers, state police said.
Powers was able to barricade himself in the house after being shot, but police got inside and arrested him.
The standoff lasted about five hours, according to Associated Press.
