Lexington police say a vehicle driven by a fugitive hit two police vehicles when they tried to stop him Monday afternoon.

Chaise M. Berryman, 22, who was driving near New Circle and Liberty roads, put his vehicle in reverse and hit a police vehicle as the officer approached him at 2:18 p.m., according to a Facebook posting by Lexington police.

Police said he then tried to drive forward and hit a second police vehicle, which left Berryman's vehicle inoperable and the police vehicle with moderate damage.

Berryman was taken to a hospital "for medical evaluation for a prior medical procedure," then was taken to the Fayette County jail, police said.

He is charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a handgun by a felon, fleeing and evading, two counts of criminal mischief, two counts of contempt of court and driving on a suspended license.

Police said no officers were injured.

A passenger in Berryman's vehicle, Devaun L. Robertson, 23, was arrested on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of a handgun by a felon.
