Lexington man charged with sending sexual text messages to teen

A Lexington man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges that he sent sexual text messages to a 14-year-old girl and tried to meet her.

Nicholas Paquette, 27, appeared in Fayette District Court Thursday for an arraignment.

Paquette was arrested Wednesday on two charges of unlawful use of electronic communications to induce a minor to engage in sexual activity, a Class D felony.

Lexington police said Paquette, whose alias is listed in a police report as "Nick from pool," sent more than 80 text messages in two days to the teen. Paquette allegedly told the girl that he wanted to have sex with her.

The girl's mother saw Paquette try to meet with the teen on Tuesday after exchanging more text messages with her, according to the report. The next day, Paquette arranged to meet the girl in the 4300 block of Clearwater Way, police said.

Police arrested Paquette when he drove into the parking lot.

Paquette is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 4 for a preliminary hearing.
