UK urges caution after attempted robbery

Campus police have increased patrols around University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center after an attempted robbery Thursday morning.

An employee left the medical center on University Drive between Complex and Huguelet drives at 12:49 a.m. A man approached the female employee and tried to pull her laptop bag off her shoulder, said Joe Monroe, UK interim chief of police.

The woman pulled her bag away and ran to her car, Monroe said. The suspect fled in a different direction.

The man didn't appear to have a weapon, Monroe said.

UK police issued an e-mail alert Thursday to inform the school community about the attempted robbery, Monroe said. Anyone with information can call the department at (859) 257-1616.
