Man, teenage boy charged in Nicholasville robbery

NICHOLASVILLE — Nicholasville police arrested a man and a teenage boy after an early morning armed robbery Wednesday at the Kroger on South Main Street.

Police were called to the store about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, where a Kroger employee said he was robbed by two people while he was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot.

One robber flashed a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money. The victim, who has not been identified, complied, and the two robbers fled on foot. The victim was not hurt.

A citizen contacted police and gave a location where two people were seen who fit the victim's descriptions of the robbers. Officers arrested the two behind Edgewood Plaza, the shopping center where the Kroger is, Nicholasville police Officer Kevin Grimes said.

Police charged Daniel W. Sayre, 20, with first-degree robbery, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence and unlawfully providing a handgun to a juvenile. He was being held in the Jessamine County jail.

The juvenile was charged with first-degree robbery, being a minor in possession of a handgun and receiving stolen property under $500.
