A Letcher County man was shot and killed Friday night by a Kentucky State Police trooper after the man allegedly raised a weapon in the direction of the trooper.
Terry Wayne Taulbee was shot sometime after 11:15 p.m. at his home on Leopard Drive in Jackhorn by Trooper Ben McCray, a 15-year-veteran of the state police. Taulbee was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County coroner, according to state police.
Police say McCray was dispatched to conduct a welfare check at Taulbee's residence after the state police post in Hazard received a call at 11:14 p.m.
Taulbee allegedly showed McCray a weapon, which police did not identify in a news release, and began making threats as he walked toward McCray. After refusing to put the weapon down, Taulbee allegedly raised the weapon in the direction of McCray.
