A man who police said tried to break into a Madison County barn was hospitalized in serious condition after he was shot by the barn's owner Tuesday night.
Kentucky State Police responded to a call of a burglary in progress at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday on Simpson Lane. John Fair, the property owner, told troopers that an alarm in his barn had gone off, state police said.
Fair discovered that a man, whom police identified as Charles Harvey, had broken into the barn, according to state police.
The two men got into a fight and Fair shot Harvey, police said.
Harvey was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The burglary and shooting are under investigation.
