Trial opens in case of woman accused of killing husband

MOREHEAD — Opening statements will be heard Tuesday in the trial of a Montgomery County woman accused of murder in the 2007 death of her husband.

A jury was seated Monday afternoon in the trial of Pamela Bartley, 58. She is charged with murder in the death of Carl Bartley, 58, who was found shot in the back of the head in the garage of their Jeffersonville home.

A mistrial was declared in July when a jury could not be seated in Pamela Bartley's first trial in Mount Sterling. The case was later moved to Morehead.

On Monday, Special Judge Janet Coleman swore in a 14-member panel. Two alternate jurors will be dismissed before the other 12 get the case for deliberations.

The trial could take as long as eight days. Opening statements are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
