Man wanted in Harlan shooting turns himself in

A man who was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Harlan County turned himself in Tuesday.

Christopher P. Smith, 37, of Cumberland, was charged with murder after turning himself in to the Letcher County sheriff's office at 10:45 a.m., state police said.

Police say Smith shot and killed Kimberly R. Ealy, 32, during a struggle with his girlfriend, Melissa Clark, 24, of Cumberland, Monday night. The incident occurred on Ky. 522. Clark and a 13-year-old were able to escape from the home.

After turning himself in, Smith was taken to the Harlan County Detention Center and bond was set at $25 million.

State police said other charges against him are pending.
