Lexington woman gets 7 years for killing pedestrian in 2007

A Lexington woman accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian in 2007 was sentenced Friday to seven years.

Sheila A. Whitler, 42, pleaded guilty in November to second-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence in the death of John Vice. Whitler was driving a silver Porsche when she hit Vice, 31, while he was crossing Man o' War Boulevard near Lyon Drive in November 2007. Vice later died from his injuries.

Fayette Circuit Judge Pamela Goodwine accepted the prosecution's recommendation of a seven-year sentence.

Vice's estate filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Whitler in 2008. Whitler denied the allegations in her response to the lawsuit. That case is pending.
