Montgomery man accused of growing marijuana in basement

A Montgomery County man was charged with cultivating marijuana after police found and seized 81 plants from the basement of his house.

Christopher Preston, 54, was charged after turning himself in Saturday, said Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge.

Acting on a tip, the sheriff's office executed a search warrant Dec. 31 at Preston's home at 215 Woodland, Short ridge said. No one was home at the time.

"There were three separate rooms" in the basement used for cultivation, Shortridge said. Police also seized lights, timers and other equipment used to grow the marijuana, Shortridge said.

Preston remains in the Montgomery County Regional Jail in lieu of a $10,000 full cash bond.
