Mad Hatter ex-owner pleads not guilty to theft charge

A former downtown Lexington business owner pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a charge of receiving stolen property.

Terry A. Grossman, 55, is accused of driving a stolen 2001 Volkswagen Beetle on Dec. 25. Lexington police arrested him Jan. 1.

Grossman, the former owner of the Mad Hatter hat shop, was arrested last month on charges of video voyeurism, stalking, burglary and narcotics possession after he allegedly tried to break into the Crescent Avenue home of several female University of Kentucky students. Police said he also had recorded nude images of the residents sporadically since August. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges. He was arrested for allegedly driving a stolen car while he was out on bond.

Grossman is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Jan. 26 in Fayette District Court.
