Monticello man suspect in three robberies

A Monticello man arrested by Richmond police is suspected in at least three armed robberies.

Rodney La'Mont Porter, 39, of Monticello, was arrested by Richmond police after the Red Roof Inn on Bahama Court was robbed shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday.

The man in that robbery held a gun on the desk clerk, took cash from the register and ran away. The clerk provided a description of the robber and the vehicle he was driving.

A short time later, an officer saw a vehicle that matched the clerk's description on East Main Street near Irvine Road. Porter was charged with first-degree robbery and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Money was recovered from Porter, police said.

Police later connected Porter to Wednesday's armed robbery of a Super 8 Motel in Berea, as well as a Mount Vernon motel several days earlier.
