Lexington woman sentenced to 5 years in infant son's death

Courtney Diane Bishop, charged in the 2007 death of her 1-month-old son, was sentenced Friday to five years in prison.

Bishop, who was released from jail in 2007 on a $100,000 property bond, was immediately taken into custody.

Bishop had been set to go on trial last month in Fayette Circuit Court on charges of murder and criminal abuse in the death of Caleb Eli Bishop, who was born Jan. 21, 2007, and died Feb. 25, 2007. Days before the trial was to start, Bishop pleaded guilty to reckless homicide.

On Friday, Bishop's attorney, Jim Lowry, said he would file a request for shock probation. Lowry also said he would file several letters in support of Bishop.

Bishop had been a music teacher at Christ the King School at the time of her arrest.
