Transient charged in Lexington slaying pleads not guilty

A transient charged with killing another homeless man pleaded not guilty Thursday in Fayette Circuit Court.

Timothy Scott Meskimen, 38, is accused of killing Edgar Hurst, 50, by striking him in the head sometime between March 27 and April 3. Hurst's body was found April 3 along North Broadway in Lexington, near Interstate 75.

Meskimen, who was indicted earlier this month, pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder, tampering with evidence, alcohol intoxication (third or more offense) and third-degree trespassing.

Meskimen, who was being held in the Fayette County jail on a $103,000 full cash bond, was arraigned via video. Additional hearings in his case were scheduled for July.
