Lexington man charged in officer's shooting back in jail

A Lexington man accused of shooting a police officer last year is back in jail after violating the conditions of his pretrial release.

Marc Anthony Laquinn Buchanan, 27, was arrested Wednesday after testing positive for marijuana use, according to court records.

Buchanan is accused of shooting Officer Nicholas Whitcomb during a foot chase in 2009, causing Whitcomb "serious physical injury," according to court records. Buchanan is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, fleeing and evading police, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.

Buchanan had been released on a $50,000 property bond posted by his grandmother.

The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office has filed several motions to revoke Buchanan's bond since then, saying he violated multiple conditions of his release. Fayette Circuit Judge James Ishmael has denied the motions.

Buchanan's trial is scheduled Dec. 2 through 9.
