A Lexington juvenile has been charged with theft of an automobile and wanton endangerment after police say he stole a woman's car and almost hit her with it early Monday.
The 16-year-old's name has not been released because he is a juvenile.
Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said the car's owner had asked a valet at the downtown Hyatt Regency Hotel to warm up her car about midnight. The valet parked the car by the front door and left it running, she said.
Then the teen, who had been in the hotel lobby to use a pay phone, got in the car, Roberts said. The owner apparently ran out to stop him and was almost hit as he drove away.
Lexington police spotted the car later near an apartment complex on Versailles Road, where the juvenile ditched it and tried to run, Roberts said. Officers caught him after a short foot pursuit.
In addition to the charges involving auto theft, the juvenile had several outstanding burglary warrants, Roberts said.
