Lexington police have released surveillance camera images of a man suspected of robbing the Kroger store on Hartland Parkway at gunpoint Monday night.

Police said the crime was unusual because robberies rarely occur at such large stores.

Investigators have said the man, who was wearing a camouflage baseball cap, a camouflage jacket, blue jeans and work boots, walked around inside the store, then walked up to the customer-service counter. Armed with a small black handgun, the man demanded cash. The clerk complied, and the man nonchalantly walked out. Police said they think the man left in a vehicle, but they do not know what kind.

Police said most shoppers who saw the man probably never knew what had happened.

Witnesses described the man as white, in his 20s, with a thin build, dark hair and glasses.
