Man arrested after fire at Laurel trailer

A methamphetamine lab apparently caused a fire at a Laurel County trailer early Thursday and led to the arrest of one man, according to Sheriff John Root.

The meth lab was discovered when Deputy Chuck Johnson went to the trailer 10 miles south of London at 1:30 a.m. to check on a report of a fire, Root said in a news release.

After Johnson got to the scene, firefighters told him the blaze in the bathroom was out. Johnson then found several items at the trailer that are commonly used to make meth, according to the release.

The deputy found William R. Whittle, 39, in a bedroom of the trailer. Whittle is charged with making meth and child endangerment because two children were inside the trailer.
