Georgetown man gets 4 years for illegal possession of firearms

A Georgetown man was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Lexington for illegally possessing 18 firearms at his home last year.

Jeffery Thomas Randall, 45, had been prohibited from possessing guns because he had burglary and felony assault convictions. Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives searched Randall's home May 28 and found the guns and 519 rounds of ammunition in a safe in the master bedroom, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Federal authorities went to the residence after Randall's ex-wife contacted Georgetown police May 26 about the guns and expressed concern for her and their child's safety. At the time of her call, Randall was on probation for violently assaulting her in 2009 in Michigan, the U.S. attorney's office said.
