Lexington police search for cigarette thief

Lexington police are searching for a man who may have burglarized several small stores since the end of November.

In each situation, the man used a rock or a block to break a door or window into the businesses, and then he loaded up cartons of cigarettes in a garbage bag or container, according to a news release.

The man has worn a gray hooded sweatshirt, a black coat, pants and gloves during the burglaries. Investigators have some surveillance footage of him fleeing in a Ford Explorer.

There have been seven burglaries. The most recent theft occurred Wednesday at the Marathon at 647 West Main Street.

Other burglaries have been at H & M Grocery at 1220 North Limestone; the Fast Stop Marathon at 1392 TrentBoulevard; Pantry Market at 460 Squires Road; Marathon at 1150 Versailles Road; Fast Stop at 771 Newtown Pike; and Marathon at 1768 Alexandria Drive.
