Officials at Winchester day care face drug charges

A Winchester day-care center remains closed after its director and assistant director were charged with selling drugs, police said.

Shannon Johnson, 29, the director of Just Like Home Child Care Center on Lexington Avenue, was arrested Tuesday on two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, said Capt. James Hall of Winchester police.

On Wednesday, assistant director Tammy Litteral, 22, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, Hall said.

State officials closed the day-care center as police notified officials about the investigation. Hall estimated that about 30 children went to the center.

Johnson was arrested after drug transactions took place at her home and at the center while children were present, Hall said. She sold the painkiller oxycodone, Hall said.

Both women were taken to the Clark County jail. Johnson appeared in Clark District Court on Wednesday, Hall said. Her bond was set at $15,000 cash; she'll return to court on Jan. 26. No bond had been set on Litteral as of Wednesday afternoon.
