A Lexington man was taken to the hospital Wednesday after he was accidentally shot in the face by a friend, police said.
While trying to drive himself to the hospital around 1 p.m. Wednesday, the man pulled up next to a police officer who was patrolling on Nicholasville Road. The victim flagged her down and told her he had been shot, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
The officer called paramedics, and the man was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. His injury did not appear life-threatening.
The man initially told officers he was standing outside at the Cedar Run Apartments on Loch Ness Drive when someone walked up and shot him. Police later found out, through witness accounts and speaking with the victim, that a gun had gone off while he and some friends were handling it.
It was unclear whether any charges would be filed.
