Police find man accused of assaulting Richmond officer

A man accused of assaulting a Richmond police officer on Sunday was found Monday in Clark County, police said.

Mark D. Robinson, 48, was taken into custody by the Clark County Sheriff's Department, said Richmond Police Maj. Bob Mott.

Mott said he didn't know any other details, but he said a Richmond detective went to Clark County to interview Robinson.

On Sunday night, Richmond police were called to investigate a complaint that a man had left Country Hearth Inn without paying his bill. The motel owner pointed out the man's vehicle at the Clark Shell station on the Eastern Bypass.

When the officer walked up to the vehicle, the driver accelerated abruptly, striking the officer's legs. The officer rolled onto the hood before falling to the ground. The officer was treated at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center and released.

State police said Monday that Robinson, who recently used the alias Peter Overly, is a non-compliant sexual offender.
