Lexington police seize more than $70,000 worth of marijuana from man's home

A Lexington man was arrested Monday when police executing a search warrant at his home discovered marijuana plants valued at tens of thousands of dollars.

John R. Mahr Jr., 32, has been charged with cultivation of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Fayette County jail Web site.

Lexington police seized between 70 and 100 marijuana plants from Mahr's home at 4601 Riverman Way at about 2:30 p.m., said Sherelle Roberts, spokeswoman for the police department. She said each plant had a street value of about $1,000.

The police department's narcotics unit had been working on the case for several weeks, Roberts said.
