Identities released in Richmond shooting

Richmond police have released the identities of a man who was killed and another man who was badly injured Sunday in a shooting in a parked vehicle.

James Ronald Thacker, 53, of Richmond was pronounced dead at the scene, and his nephew Danny Joe Thacker, 37, of Irvine was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon.

Richmond police Maj. Bob Mott said the two were found inside a vehicle parked off U.S. 25 in Richmond shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mott said the shooting is being investigated as either a murder-suicide or an attempted "suicide-suicide." Mott police are questioning relatives to learn more about what happened before the shooting.
