A Madison County woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing more than $43,500 from the Eastern Kentucky Child Care Coalition.
Lisa Marie Bussell, 41, of Richmond was sentenced in Madison Circuit Court after entering a guilty plea to one count of theft by unlawful taking over $300, according to a news release from the state attorney general's office. Bussell also was ordered to pay restitution to the coalition.
The Department of Criminal Investigations unit of the state attorney general's office began investigating Bussell in December 2009 after receiving a tip from a concerned resident. The tip involved the theft of grant money by an employee of the coalition, which is a private, non-profit agency that seeks to increase the quality and accessibility of child care in Southeastern Kentucky.
Prosecution of the case was handled by Madison Commonwealth's Attorney David Smith.
