A couple was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor after police found the adults passed out or asleep in a car with an 3-year-old, Richmond police said.
Jobi Chamberlain, 35, and Stephanie M. Chamberlain, 29, both of Richmond, were also charged with public intoxication, police said.
Officers responding to a report of two people passed out in a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon found the two parked at gas pumps at a Circle K convenience store on Amberly Way in Richmond.
Officers found indications that the couple were under the influence of intoxicants other than alcohol, according to a police news release. Both were lodged in the Madison County jail, and the child was released to a "responsible relative," police said.
The Chamberlains remained in jail as of Thursday afternoon.
