Lexington man is sentenced in child-porn case

A 23-year-old Lexington man was sentenced Monday to 96 months in prison for receiving child pornography.

Kevin Coley, who was a University of Kentucky student at the time of the offense, collected about 40,000 images of child pornography, including violent videos and sexually explicit photos of children as young as 2 years, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

A Lexington police detective testified that Coley also photographed children between 3 and 7 years old at a park, a funeral and a local child care facility where he volunteered. The children were clothed, but the photos were taken without the children's knowledge, and the child care facility had not given Coley permission to take them, according to the news release.

Lexington police found Coley's activity during a 2009 investigation into the online trading of child pornography.

Coley will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence and will be under probation office supervision for the rest of his life.
