A Laurel County man crashed his truck and then reported it stolen to direct suspicion away from himself, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.
Cody Smith, 20, of Lily told police he reported the truck stolen because there were outstanding warrants for him, Root said in a news release.
The crash happened about 2:15 p.m. Monday on Lily School Road south of London. Smith's 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck ran off the road and hit a utility pole, police said.
Moments later, Smith called authorities to report his truck had been stolen.
