Police are looking for a man they say shot a Lexington teenager outside a downtown bar two weeks ago.

Brian Edward Carr, 19, was gunned down near 367 East Main Street. On Friday, police issued a murder warrant for Robert Benton, 31, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said. Benton had not been located Friday afternoon.

Carr had been at a bar with friends the night of April 30. About 2:30 a.m. May 1, police responded to the murder scene after reports of "shots being fired during a disorder," according to a news release from police.

Two officers in the area heard the shots and were the first to find Carr, police have said. They administered medical care until an ambulance arrived, but it was too late for Carr.

He died about 3:27 a.m. at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

It's not clear whether Carr knew Benton, who has a lengthy criminal history in Lexington.

Benton has been in and out of jail since 1998 for charges including robbery and drug trafficking, according to court documents.

Benton is currently on supervised parole from a 2005 conviction of possession of a controlled substance, flagrant non-support and being a persistent felony offender, said Lisa Lamb, spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections.

Anyone with information on Benton's whereabouts is asked to contact Lexington police at (859) 258-3600 or (859) 258-3700.
