Man arrested after asking police officers to help with burglary

A Lexington man's attempt to get two other people to help him break into a house early Friday didn't work out so well. The folks he asked to help him turned out to be Lexington police officers who were working out of uniform.

Thomas Everett Finnell, 20, approached the officers, who were "conducting surveillance" in the area, and tried to get them "to break into a house and steal guns and a TV with him," according to a uniform citation filed in Fayette District Court.

After conducting a "consensual" search of Finnell's residence, an officer found "a pipe with residue under the suspect's bed," the citation states.

Finnell was arrested at Bay Meadows Drive and Abdul Court at 2:45 a.m. Friday and charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held Saturday in the Fayette County Detention Center.
