Man accused of killing Lexington cab driver is indicted on murder charge

John Davis Cherry Jr., accused of killing a Lexington taxi driver in March, was indicted on murder and other charges by a Fayette County grand jury on Tuesday.

Cherry, 29, intentionally shot Amine Lemghaili, the indictment says.

Lemghaili was found March 20 with a gunshot wound to the head inside his taxi in the Woodhill neighborhood about seven hours after he was shot, according to authorities.

The grand jury also indicted Cherry on drug charges and charges of wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, receiving stolen property, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Cherry, who is in the Fayette County Detention Center, is to be arraigned in Fayette Circuit Court on June 2.
