Two people were injured in an early morning shootout in Lexington on Tuesday.
Police were called to the 400 block of Hawkins Street, near Fifth Street, about 12:30 a.m. after a caller reported shots fired in the area.
Officers found a man who had been shot in the hand, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
While officers were talking to that man, University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital staff called police to report that another man had driven himself to the emergency room with gunshot wounds to the stomach and chest, she said.

The men were injured in the same shooting, police said. Neither man's injuries was thought to be life threatening.
Police were investigating, but "neither of these victims were forthcoming in explaining what happened during the shooting," Roberts said.
