Lexington police warn against credit card text-message scam

Lexington police have received reports of a credit card scam involving text messages.

Police said in a news release that multiple people have received text messages falsely claiming their credit cards had been stolen or used by a third party and deactivated. The messages tell individuals to call a phone number and leave a message with their billing address and credit card information in order to reactivate their credit cards.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Financial Crimes Unit at (859) 258-3700. They can also submit tips via cell phone by sending "tips2020" plus a message to CRIMES (274637). Information also can be submitted online at www.bluegrasscrimestoppers.com.
