A Lexington man was charged with drunken driving after crashing into a stopped police cruiser early Friday.

Kyle Ford, 31, was driving a pickup truck on Tates Creek Road when he slammed into the cruiser, which was stopped at a red light near the New Circle Road intersection, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

The impact crumpled the cruiser's bumper and trunk lid, but neither Ford nor officer Ryan Raker, who was driving the cruiser, were injured, Roberts said. Both were wearing seat belts.

Ford was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and no insurance. He was taken to Fayette County jail.
