A Boone County man with a prior sex offense was sentenced to 19 years in prison on Monday for trying to entice a minor to have sex with him.
Between April 26 and June 1, Ricky Lee Dawson, 30, chatted with an undercover officer from the Kenton County Police Department who he thought was an underage girl, describing "in grahic detail his intentions to have sexual intercourse" with her, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office in Covington.
On June 1, Dawson took a taxi to Kenton County to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old. He was arrested at that time.
In 2009, Dawson committed a similar act and was convicted of unlawful access to a computer in Boone Circuit Court, according to the release.
The previous conviction contributed to the federal sentence of 235 months in prison. He will have to serve at least 85 percent of the time and will be on supervised release for 30 years.
