Longtime officers involved in fatal Shelbyville shooting

Two veteran officers with the Shelbyville Police Department were involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect Saturday that is now under investigation.

The man who died in the shooting was identified as Trey Williams, 18, of Shelbyville.

According to Kentucky State Police, the officers are Suzanne Marcum, who has been employed by the Shelbyville department for 17 years, and Frank Willoughby, a six-year veteran.

The shooting occurred after authorities received a call Saturday afternoon about someone walking on Midland Trail in Shelbyville carrying a piece of pipe in his hand. A second call said the man had broken out a window at a house.

Officers arrived at 1:47 p.m. and they called for assistance at 2:07 p.m., stating that one officer was down. Both were taken to Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville for treatment.

Williams, the wounded man, also was taken to the Shelbyville hospital, where he later died.

State police are investigating the case at the request of the Shelbyville Police Department.
