Lexington man pleads not guilty in murder case

A Lexington man pleaded not guilty Monday to murder in the death in May of a man who lived near him on Centre Parkway.

Gregory Allen Seldon is accused of beating Dennis M. Kelly to death. Kelly, 57, was found dead inside his townhome in the 1200 block of Centre Parkway after neighbors had not heard from him for several days.

Seldon, 37, was in jail on an unrelated second-degree robbery charge when police charged him with murder last week. Lexington police Lt. James Curless declined to say what led police to charge Seldon.

Curless has said Kelly and Seldon knew each other, but they were not close. Seldon lived near Kelly, according to court documents. His home address is listed on a jail booking report as 1886 Centre Parkway, less than half a mile from Kelly's townhome.

Seldon was being held at the Fayette County jail without bond. He is scheduled to return to court Dec. 5 for a preliminary hearing.
